Abstract
831,401. Adhesive dressings. BLACKFORD, B. B. March 10, 1958 [March 11, 1957], No. 7659/58. Class 81 (2). An adhesive surgical dressing comprises a flexible non-extensible backing member 1 having wide ends 2 and a narrow intermediate portion 3 having a non-adhesive surface on one side, the ends 2 having a pressure-sensitive adhesive on the same side, and a facing member or members 6, 7 having a smooth surface in intimate contact with the adhesive so that the surface of the underlying adhesive is correspondingly smooth when the facing members 6, 7 are removed. The non-extensible backing member 1 is made from cotton fabric impregnated or coated with plasticized vinyl chloride or ethyl cellulose or from polyethylene terephthalate or vinyl film forming a laminate with a non-stretch woven fabric. The narrow intermediate portion 3 is left free of adhesive or is covered with a non-adherent film 5, e.g. " Cellophane " (Registered Trade Mark), ethylene glycol terephthalate or cellulose acetate, or paper coated with ethyl cellulose, polyethylene or polystyrene. The facing members 6, 7 which may form part of a wrapper, are formed by a smooth organic film or laminate which is inert with respect to the adhesive, e.g. " Cellophane," cellulose acetate, vinyl chloride resins or copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride, or paper impregnated with urea-formaldehyde, melamine or formaldehyde resins. Adhesives used are based on natural rubber, styrene, butadiene, isobutylene or polyalkylacrylate and may incorporate tackifiers and plasticizers. Specification 754,848 is referred to.
