Abstract
576,124. Compound sheet materials. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. May 9, 1942, No. 6308 Convention date, May 16, 1941. [Class 140] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXIII] A flexible puncture-sealing wall for containers (especially fuel tanks) comprises a layer 2 of latexdeposited rubber, a layer 3 of neoprene or other material resistant to the diffusion of fuels adhered to the inner face of the layer 2, and at least two layers 4, 5 of cord fabric adhered to the outer surface of the layer 2. The structure is secured to the aeroplane wing 6 as indicated. The cords of the two fabrics may be inclined to each other and the layers may be vulcanized together. A heavy fabric may be interposed beneath the fuel-resistant layer. The fuel tank may be secured within the wing of an aeroplane by end and side supports.
