Abstract
562,388. Liquid containers. SHAKESBY, L., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1942, No. 18103. [Class 66] [Also in Group XXIX] A compartmented flexible or semi-rigid container for fuel, &c. for aircraft and other vehicles comprises an assembly of separately constructed cells each having at least one side or face adhesively and/or mechanically secured to a complementary side or face of an adjacent cell, or to an interposed sheet of flexible or rigid material, said cells being further secured together by peripheral or like bands or discontinuous strips adhesively secured over the joints between adjacent cells. In the form shown, a container is built of two cells 1, 2, of which complementary faces 1a, 2a are adhesively secured to an interposed vulcanized fibre, metal, plastic, leather or other sheet 3, a flexible strip 4 of rubberized fabric, &c. being secured over the joints. The cells communicate through aligned apertures 5, 6, a filler cap 7, vent 8 and outlet fitting being provided. A self-sealing covering of layers of wool, felt, leather, heavy fabrics, natural or synthetic rubber sheets or sponges &c. may also be provided. Pipes may be provided in the apertures 5, 6, or the cells may communicate indirectly through conduits. The cells may differ in size and shape, and a three-cell container may comprise a main cellwith two smaller cells secured to the same side.
