538,794. Tanks. SMITH, C. HARCOURT-. Jan. 13, 1940, No. 806. Drawings to Specification. [Class 69 (i)] A bullet-proof petrol &c. tank comprises a flexible bag of petrol-resistant fabric &c. and a layer or layers of flexible sheet material having bullet-proofing characteristics, such as sheet rubber, rubberized fabric or both, secured by adhesive over the whole of the walls of the bag or at intervals over said walls. A flexible bag held rigid by a permanent or temporary inner frame, is formed of cloth &c. impregnated with petrol-resistant composition such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark "Neoprene" ; outside the bag, one or more sandwiches, each comprising a layer of cellular rubber held in compression in its own plane between two layers of sheet rubber secured to the inner layer while stretched, are applied by rubber solution. The layer of sheet rubber adjacent the bag may be omitted. An outer cover of stiff canvas &c. may be secured by rubber solution, and may be treated with shrink dope and painted. Adjacent edges of the protecting layers may be stitched together and covered with rubber strip.
