575,987. Framework. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G. May 23, 1944, No. 9938. Convention date, March 6, 1943. [Class 4] An empennage construction comprising a horizontal stabilizer surface 11 embodying a main spar 15 is connected to an aeroplane body 10 by means of a short false spar 19, which is rigidly connected by lugs 24 to parts 25 fixed in the body and is also connected by shear ribs 20 to the main spar so that stress is communicated from the main spar to the false spar, the central portion 27 of the main spar being connected to the body through a flexible horizontal plate 28 and also through a vertical plate 29 bolted in the body and affording a fulcrum for the main spar to transmit stresses to the false spar ; a rear spar 16 is also connected by ribs 20 to the false spar and is itself rigidly connected to the body in the same manner as the false spar. Further ribs 22 and 23, parallel to ribs 20, are provided. A vertical stabilizer 12, Fig. 2, is rigidly connected to the false spar and rear spar.
