[Class 122 (iii)] In a radial cylinder sleeve engine balance weights o are provided on each half-speed valve driving shaft g, rotating oppositely to the crank d, at a radius slightly greater than that of the valve and of sufficient mass to balance a large percentage of the forces and moments due to the valve operating mechanism. If the masses are sufficient to balance substantially or completely the said forces, an unbalanced couple is produced which may be neutralised by additional weights y, z on the shafts providing an opposing couple.
