Abstract
575,643. Injection-moulding machines. E.M.B. CO., Ltd., and COCKERILL, W. H. Feb. 29, 1944, No. 3760. [Class 87 (ii)] Relates to injection-moulding machines in which raw material is fed intermittently and in measured amounts from a hopper to a heated cylinder, from which it is forced into a mould by a plunger. According to the invention, the material is transferred from the hopper to the cylinder by a slide valve, operatively associated with the plunger and formed with a series of compartments which receive material from the hopper and discharge it into the cylinder. As the plunger C moves to the right under the action of compressed air contained in a cylinder d, the piston valve 'i is also moved to the right through the crosshead l and adjustable collars m. The series of compartments n, formed by deep circumferential grooves in the valve, pass under the open hopper h, from which raw material falls into the compartments. On the return stroke of the plunger c, the valve moves to the left and the raw material falls into the short supply passage f. When a long stroke is taken by the plunger c, the valve moves further to the right, exposing more compartments to the hopper and hence discharging more material to the passage f on the return stroke.
