Abstract

575,548. Looms having stationary weft supplies. TOMKINSONS, Ltd., and CARTWRIGHT, G. H. Feb. 28, 1944, No. 3618. [Class 142 (ii)] A weft tensioning device for carpet looms arranged to give a substantially aligned lead for the thread from the source of supply to the weft inserting means has a triple-eyed tensioning device and nip mechanism which grips the thread until weft insertion takes place. The thread is drawn from package b, through ring d and funnel e to the triple-eyed tensioning device which has a movable eyed member g oscillatable between stationary eyed members f<1>,f<2>. When the eyes are out of alignment the thread is held between them and by a spring nip mechanism f<1>, j, constituting one of the stationary eyes ; when weft is to be inserted the member g is moved inwards and a crank piece g<3> presses against a spring-loaded slide j of the nip mechanism to release the thread.
