Abstract
492,475. Inserting weft from a stationary supply. GLEDHILL & SONS, Ltd., W., and GLEDHILL. W. V. July 1, 1937, No. 18259. [Class 142 (ii)] Relates to looms of the kind described in Specification 289,570, [Class 142 (ii)], wherein the weft d extends through a passage a<1> in one jaw a of two pivoted jaws a, b of delivering grippers furnished with a gap e, the grippers a, b automatically delivering the weft gripped thereby to receiving grippers f, g having jaws movable in a plane at right-angles to the jaws a, b. To ensure that a flat ribbon or tape weft which may have one face embossed, coloured or polished, may be so presented to the grippers e, f that it is always gripped thereby with the same face uppermost, the outlet end of the passage a<1> is provided. with a wall, horn or projection h with an inclined and or curved steering face h<1> to deflect the weft suitably. The projection &c. h may be integral with or be inserted in the jaw a. The grippers a, b may hand over the weft to the grippers f, g half way across the shed, or the laying of the weft may be performed entirely by the delivering grippers or by the receiving grippers, a series of vertically movable delivery grippers being used in the latter case.
