Abstract
575,225. Shaping wood by cutting; work holders. GRADEWELL LAST CO., Ltd., and BOWEN, E. D. March 8, 1944, No. 4324. [Class 145 (i)] A work-holder, which is specially applicable for cutting wooden soles, but can be used for producing other contoured articles, is constructed with a frame or casting 1 having a lower part 4 in which is mounted a turntable 13 for supporting a template P and a wooden block SB, and an upper part 3 which supports a pressure pad or foot 19 attached to a hollow spindle 20, the foot 19 being depressed against the action of a spring 23 to engage the work by means of a cam 28 operated by a handle 27. The foot 19 can be rotated by gearing 31, 33, 35 operated by a handle 38 so as to move the work past the cutting-device, and the work can be moved into contact with the cutter by pivotal motion of the frame 1 about a pivot 9 mounted in a stand 7 screwed to the work bed 12, the frame 1 being formed with coaxial bored bosses 5 and 6 which embrace the pivot 9. The work is held up to the cutter by means of a long handle 39 which controls the pivotal movement of the frame 1.
