[Class 60] A form grinding-machine has the work and a pattern mounted on an arm pivoted about a vertical axis, the pattern being held yieldingly against a contour plate, which, together with the grinding-wheel, is movable to swing the arm about its pivot, thus causing the pattern to roll upon the contour plate and the work to be moved correspondingly in relation to the grinding-wheel; the work is rotated during the grinding operation. The machine comprises an arm c, carried by a bracket d pivoted about a vertical axis in a part attached to a base g, the arm carrying the pattern a and the work j, one vertically above the other, the work j being mounted between centres j<1>, j<2> and rotated by a flexible shaft j' and belt gearing from a motor h<4>. The motor h<4> also drives, through belt gearing, a cup-shaped grinding- wheel h, which is mounted on a slide g<1> movable on the base at right angles to the arm c ; the slide g<1> carries also a contour or rolling plate i pivoted at i<1> and adjustable by screws i<2>, i<3> so as to be vertically above the operative face of the wheel h. The wheel h is mounted on a second slide g<2> adjustable, to apply cut, on the slide g<1> by means of a micrometer screw g<3>; the arm c is acted upon, to hold the pattern up to the contour plate and the work up to the wheel h, by a flexible connection c<1> and a weight. Means may be provided to enable the arm c to be held away from the wheel h &c. for changing a piece of work and the part n carrying the centres for the tip ends of the pattern and work may be adjustable on the arm c to accommodate work of various lengths. In operation, the slide g<1> is moved towards the work by a screw m<1> and handle m to cause the pattern to roll on the contour plate i, a corresponding movement being given to the work in relation to the grinding-wheel. The wheel. may be trued by a diamond p carried by a block p<1> slidable along the arm c by a screw p<2>. Specification 480,661 is referred to.
