Abstract

574,162. Mixing charge. ROWLAND, D. E. A. July 14, 1944, No. 13482. [Class 7 (ii)] A mixing device, to effect economy in the fuel consumption of an internal-combustion engine, is fitted within the intake pipe 5 between the ,carburetter and the engine 'and comprises two or more vanes or baffles 1, 2, spaced apart and angularly disposed to each other, the edges of the vanes are preferably sloped or bevelled 1A, 2A, so that the incoming charge is angularly deflected and given a whirling or rotary motion through the intake pipe. A central passage 4 allows a portion of the charge to travel in a straight line through the device and later to mix with the whirling gases on the other side.
