[Class 81(ii)] A dental tool holder 1, e.g., of the type used for boring mutually parallel channels in the teeth, is fitted into the upper or lower jaw, bearing against the palate through the intermediary of a mouldable mass and is retained in a definite position with a suitable pressure by means of a yoke 11 bearing at one end on the holder and secured at its other end in a vertex support 12, or a chin support. The yoke is formed with a point 24 engaging with holes in the tool holder, and with a pointed screw 13 engaging with holes in the vertex support, so that it may be swung sideways to avoid interference with the work. The screw 13 is adjusted to give the desired pressure, and the yoke being of resilient material may be removed and replaced to fix the tool holder in the same position. Plates 17, connected to the vertex support through ball and socket joints, bear against the head, and the support is retained in position by a strap 19 provided with a spring 20. Extensions to the vertex support bearing on the temples, the back of the neck, or the forehead, may be included. The tool holder shown comprises a threaded spindle 4 carrying a movable arm consisting of two links 5 and 6, a sleeve being formed at the end of link 6 for guiding a burr-drill. For ascertaining the correct position for the yoke, an indicator consisting of a rod of the same general shape as the yoke, may be used; the rod is adapted to be fixed relatively to the tool holder so that a point at its upper end indicates in which hole in the vertex support the yoke should be secured. A modification of the yoke for fixing under the chin with the tool holder bearing against the lower jaw is described with reference to a drawing.
