Abstract

574,088. Electrolysis. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd., and PFEIL, L. B. May 27, 1941, No. 6799. [Class 41] [Also in Groups II and XI] A heat resisting chromium-containing alloy or article made therefrom which is subjected to high temperatures in service is provided on its surface with a gas-permeable film consisting essentially of one or more oxides or hydroxides of one or more of the elements, thorium, calcium, zirconium and the rare-earth elements or capable of forming such oxides when heated to high temperatures in service is in the form of the elements in their elementary form or in salts that decompose to oxide when so heated. The examples of the alloys are those containing 10-30 per cent. of chromium, 20-90 of nickel, 0-50 of iron particularly one containing 80 of nickel and 20 of chromium. The films may be produced by dipping the article into a salt solution or an oxide coating may be deposited anodically. The film may be applied to an alloy which is then fabricated or to a partly fabricated article, the fabrication then being completed. Specifications 210,654, [Class 82(ii)], 354,965 and 530,339, [both in Group II], are referred to.
