Abstract

573,434. Cartridge magazines. VESELY, J. Aug. 14, 1942, No. 11408. [Class 119] Relates to magazines of the kind comprising two or more compartments 5, 6, arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction of the cartridges, and particularly to the kind of magazine described in Specification 573,429. According to the invention, each compartment except the rearmost one is provided with means, such as a stop 38 for supporting and retaining the uppermost cartridge, thereby preventing backward axial movement of the latter when the returning breech-block slides over it. In the construction shown, the stop has a spring stem 40 which is mounted in a turned-over portion 41 of the magazine wall 25. The front face abuts against the rear faces of the upper two cartridges 34, 35 in the front compartment, while the edge 42 of the stop engages the sides of the cartridges 43 of the rear compartment and maintains them in contact with the guide lip 27 of the magazine casing during their forward movement to the loading position. The stop is formed from sheet metal and has a vertical face which is slotted or grooved at 44 to receive the edge of a flange 32 formed on the casing, the flange thus preventing movement of the stop in a vertical direction. The upper face of the feeder plate 14 in the front compartment is stepped to provide upper and lower surfaces 15, 16, Fig. 6, and the partition wall 4 between the two compartments is recessed at 33 to permit the passage of the cartridges from compartment 6.
