Abstract

572,974. Compound fabrics. MANDLEBERG & CO., Ltd., J., and LLOYD. J. Sept. 22, 1943, No. 15540. [Class 140] Two fabrics, one or both of which is coated with a composition comprising synthetic rubber or highly resinous natural rubber, are united by applying to a coated fabric a solvent for the composition or a further film of the composition containing a solvent, applying a solvent for the composition to the other fabric which may or may not be coated, and bringing the softened and/or wetted sides of the two fabrics together by passing them through the nip of unheated pressure rollers. The composition may comprise the material sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Buna" compounded with softeners, plasticizers, fillers, pigments and vulcanizing agents and made into a dough with coal tar naphtha and petroleum. The solvent may be coal tar naphtha with or without added petroleum. As shown the coated fabric a passes beneath a blade b which spreads thereon a further thin film of the coating composition, and is united between rollers e and f with the other fabric c which has been damped by the roller d with a solvent for the coating composition.
