Abstract
572,926. Automatic guns. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., FAULKNER, H. A., and WACKROW, R. D. May 21, 1942, No. 6906. [Class 119] [Also in Group XXV] Pin fastenings for securing parts of automatic guns, such as the barrel or stock, are retained by spring means which also serve to prevent complete removal of the pin. A barrel-looking pin 1 is shown, whereby the barrel 8 is looked to the breech-body 10 of the gun. The pin is formed with a tapered groove 3 adjacent the knob 2 and a second similar groove 3a, but with reversed taper, near its inner end. A spring retainer 14, of the shape shown in Fig. 3 (section on line A-A), encircles a boss 11 on the breech-body and engages by its arm 15, located in a slot 13 in the boss, with the groove 3 when the pin is in barrel-looking position. When the pin is pulled outwards, the tapered wall 4 of the groove forces the spring arm 15 outwards, and the pin may be withdrawn until the groove 3a is opposite the spring, which thereupon engages in the groove and prevents further withdrawal of the pin. On pushing the pin inwards, the taper 4a of the groove disengages the spring.
