Abstract
572,467. Magnetos. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Jan. 21, 1943, No. 25243/44. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1942. Divided out of 572,441. [Class 35] In a magneto, such as described in Specification 572,466, in which the circuit breaker mechanism is housed in a separate compartment and the circuit breaker cam-shaft 53 is driven as by bevel gear 67 from the rotor shaft, the driving connection is housed in a compartment which is made substantially oil-tight. The shaft carries oil slingers 90, 91 at the inner side of its bearings 10, and an oil seal is provided consisting of a ring 71 with a re-entrant flange 73, 74 carrying a ring 76, which coacts with a reverse thread 78 on the shaft. At the outer side of the seal is a ring 79 with a ring 80 of carbon bearing on a shoulder of the shaft under the pressure of springs 81, and a flexible oil-proof diaphragm 84 is connected across the gap between the rings 79 and 71. Flanges 82, 83 on these rings retain the seal in position when the abutment for the ring 79 is removed.
