Abstract

571,008. Electric conductors. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., HUNTER, P. V., and BOYSE, C. O. Oct. 15, 1943, Nos. 16978/43 and 11906/44. [Class 36] A high-voltage conductor capable of being coiled on a drum consists of a smooth hollow cylinder 1 with a narrow helical gap 2 in its wall. To resist collapse, the conductor may have an internal support comprising a beam 3, Fig. 2, of I- or Z-section, preferably twisted to a a helical form oppositely to the gap 2. The flanges 4 may have curved ends. In a modification, Fig. 3, one edge of the gap 2 has parts 5, 6 forming an undercut recess to receive the inwardly-projecting part 7 of the other edge ; these members being normally spaced apart a short distance. According to the second Provisional Specification, the cylinder may be filled or nearly filled with a solid or stranded wire with or without one or more intermediate helically divided cylinders.
