Abstract

570,954. Extruding. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES), Ltd., and CORMODE, W. J. Jan. 18, 1943, No. 908. [Class 83 (iv)] An aluminium alloy or other metal article having a flange at one end is made from a blank having the diameter and configuration of said flange by indirect extrusion of part of said blank to form the main part of the article. A perforated blank a may be placed in a container c having a mandrel e to engage the hole b and pressure be applied by a hollow plunger d which fits the recess in the c'entaiiier c, but is spaced from the mandrel at its die opening to allow a hollow stem to be extruded into the plunger. If the mandrel is omitted, a solid stem is formed. In modifications, the stem is not coiitrai to the flange or a number of stems may be formed with one head or flange.
