Abstract

1,075,437. Extruding; attaching handles. ALUMINUM CO. OF AMERICA. Oct. 8, 1965 [Oct. 12, 1964], No. 42866/65. Headings B3A and B3P. [Also in Division B8] A container is impact-extruded with an integral rivet (12), Fig. 7, by means of a punch (16) having the internal dimensions of the container and a die (15) recessed to receive the punch and with a central cavity (17) to form the rivet. After being stripped from the members (15, 16) the container end is reformed by means of a recessed die (18), Fig. 8, co-operating with a mandrel (19), thereby recessing the container end wall. A scoring die (20) forms a line of weakness, Fig. 9, defining an area in the end wall which includes the rivet, after which. Fig. 10 (not shown), an apertured pull tab is applied over the rivet and the rivet head deformed by a die (22) to secure the tab. The container may be of aluminium or an aluminium alloy containing at least 50% by weight of aluminium.
