[Class 120 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] In a driven endless conveyer band for use in combination with the machine described in Specification 444,043 in which foreign substances in a web or fleece 16 are crushed by pressure rollers 11, the band element 2 is mounted on two rollers 3, 4, the feed roller 3 being of much smaller diameter than the delivery roller 4 to avoid a sharp doubling- back action so that a web or fleece may gravitate automatically away from the band by its own weight on to a receiving surface. As shown, the roller trunnions 5, 6 are supported in bearings 7, 8 in brackets 9 adjustably or otherwise secured to the frame 10 of the pressure rollers 11, the roller 3 being driven by gears 12, 13, 14 from the lower roller 11. The bearings 7, 8 may be adjustable on the brackets 9 and the latter may be adjustable lengthwise for varying the tension on the band 2. Means for treating the web and/or the surrounding air with moist vapour, may be associated with the endless band, e.g. a steam pipe may be carried by the brackets 9 within the band 2 to allow steam to rise to the web through interstices on the band. The band may be of leather, textile material, &c. or of metal, wood, &c. bars held in close or spaced relationship. In a modification, the endless band is adjustably mounted to allow it to occupy different angular positions, the trunnions 6 of the roller 4 being carried by two pairs of arms, one pair mounted on the trunnions 5 and including an adjustable tensioning device and the other pair adjustably clamped to the frame 10.
