Abstract

570,534. Winding yarns. ARUNDEL, COULTHARD, & CO., Ltd., and RIDGWAY, F. Oct. 4, 1943, Nos. 16257 and 19637. [Class 120 (ii)] In a yarn winding machine having a thread guide reciprocated by a cam which is driven at variable speeds in order to prevent the building of packages with tight ends the yarn guide is resiliently mounted in order at reversals to throw over to a varying extent according to its speed of reciprocation so that the yarn reversal points are more widely distributed and the package formed with softer ends. As shown, the guide a is carried in a sheet metal holder b, Fig. 1, fixed to a top plate c between which and a plate d are secured rubber or other resilient blocks e having metal sleeves f through which pass the rods or rails along which the guide is reciprocated by a cam engaging the head g of the securing bolt h. In a modification, the holder b is bonded to a rectangular rubber block to which is also bonded the turned-up end of a supporting plate. In a further modification, the guide arm m, Fig. 3, is mounted on a rubber or like bush n around a projecting peg o on the part p carrying the cam-engaging peg q.
