Abstract
570,362. Coin - freed mechanism. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., BURNETT, W. E., and HOPWOOD, G. Jan. 13, 1942, No. 493. [Class 27] Means for testing weight and rebound of coins in a coin-freed automatic machine comprise an inclined passage 1 ending in an abutment 3 to arrest the coin which falls on to a lower rail 4 of less inclination, leading the coin to a carrier pivoted at 6 having a coin-positioning stop 7, an adjustable counterweight 9, and a secondary weight 10 on an arm 11. From the carrier the coin falls on to one or other of two adjacent rebound surfaces 12, 13 in front of which is a hurdle pin 14, the arrangement being such that a correct coin will fall on to surface 13 and rebound over the pin 14 into the acceptance passage at 2e. Other coins fall between the surfaces 12, 13 and the pin 14 into the rejection passage. If, however, a coin is so much underweight as not to move the carrier 5 out of balanced position, it will remain therein and together with the following coin will both fall clear of the anvil 12, 13 into the rejection passage. To ensure this, the face of the carrier is set slightly behind that of the coin passage 1, so that the second coin has room to enter the carrier.
