Abstract

538,824. Coin-testing in coin-freed machines. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and BURNETT, W. E. Feb. 9, 1940, No. 2528. [Class 27] An annulus-testing appliance, which prevents the insertion into the machine of discs having no raised rim or annulus, comprises two members spring-pivoted at 5 and furnished with feelers 7 normally situated above the pivots. All coins or discs inserted through the slot 2 rotate the members 4 and as the feelers 7 must approach one another until they pass the dead centre in alignment with the pivots 5, discs having no annulus prevent this movement and are unable to pass the beaks 6 of the members. Coins with an annulus, on the other hand, permit the feelers to swing inwards, as seen in Fig. 1, once the leading edge 9 has passed. On passing the dead centre, the beaks 6 separate and permit the further passage of the coin.
