Abstract

570,256. Detachable wheel mountings for motor-cycles &c. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and TURNER, E. Aug. 10, 1943, No. 12895. [Classes 79 (ii) and 136 (ii)] A hub for a motor cycle or like wheel comprises an axle part 3 supporting inner and outer sleeves 1, 13 separated by antifriction bearings 9, longitudinal splines 23 on the sleeve 13 engaging corresponding splines 25 on the hub shell 27, and a driving sprocket mounted on a second axle part 41 adapted to be secured to one of the forks, the driving sprocket having splines associated therewith for engagement also with the splines 23 on the sleeve 13 so that the hub shell 27 may be driven by the sprocket, and the axle part 3, sleeves and hub shell removed from the driving sprocket without disturbing the position of the sprocket on the fork. As shown, a combined sprocket and brake drum 31 is bolted at 33 to a ring-shaped member 35 having internal splines 37 engaging the splines 23 on the sleeve 13. A screwthreaded portion 39 at one end of the axle part 3 engages the axle part 41 and, at the other end, a distance-piece 45 is mounted between the outer end of the bearing hub and the fork 11 to permit detachment of the wheel after the axle part 3 has been removed. Flanges 26 on the hub shell receive the inner ends of the wheel spokes 28.
