Abstract
205,882. Pugh, J. V., and Rudge- Whitworth, Ltd. July 25, 1922. Detaching from, and attaching to, permanent hubs.-A detachable wheel hub construction of the type in which the inner end of the outer hub is enlarged to enclose the brake-drum or driving gear or to accommodate the steering pivot in the mid plane of the wheel, is adapted to provide a sufficient driving connection between the inner and outer tubes without unduly increasing their width, by dishing the inner ends of the tubes a, c in opposite directions and disposing them with their concave faces adjacent so as to transmit the axial thrust of the nut d to two coned surfaces e, f and produce a frictional driving contact between them, and by providing the outer hub with an extended bush j which has positive driving engagement with the inner hub. The bush j is enlarged at its outer end j<1> to fit accurately in the hub a and is secured by the outer row of spokes. An additional bearing is given by a flange j<3> which may be at the inner end of the bush or at an intermediate point.
