Abstract
570,168. Alloys. CLIMAX MOLYBDENUM CO. Jan. 12, 1943, No. 576. Convention date, July 8, 1941. Drawings to Specification. [Class 82 (i)] A process for producing molybdenum-containing ferrous alloys comprises the addition of fluxless molybdenum monoxide to the molten ferrous metal which reduces the molybdenum oxide to molybdenum which is absorbed in the molten bath. Instead of the monoxide, a crude molybdenum compound corresponding approximately to the composition of the monoxide may be employed. Such a compound may be obtained by roasting molybdenite and reducing the roasted molybdenite with carbon until it contains about 14 per cent oxygen, and probably comprises a mixture of monoxide with much smaller quantities of molybdenum and molybdenum dioxide and sesquioxide. The material is made into pellets or packed in cardboard or paper containers for addition to the molten bath.
