Abstract
570,058. Swaging saw teeth. MULLER AKT.-GES. BRUGG. Dec. 14, 1943, No. 20964. Convention date, Jan. 19. [Class 145 (ii)] Saw teeth are swaged to shape whilst held between dies that support the blade on all sides so that each tooth is equally formed. As applied to hand saws, the back of the saw is supported by an adjustable fence 4 carried by a bracket 3. Dies 1, 5 shaped at their corners to suit the tooth form are secured to the bed 2 and to a holder 6 pivoted at 18 on a slide 9 adjustable at 8 to suit the saw thickness. The blade is clamped between the dies with the tooth to be swaged supported on its rear face by a blade 16 slightly thinner than the saw so that clamping of the latter by the dies is not affected. Clamping pressure is applied by a screw 12 working in a bush 13 screwed into the frame and locked by a pin. Swaging pressure is applied by a die 25 adjustably supported in a holder 26 by a backing-up screw 27. The holder has a rotatable connection, formed to permit lateral assembly and removal of a pressure applying head 31 of a screw 38. Stroke is limited by a stop 37 that engages the lover or spanner operating the screw. When circular saws are to be swaged, the bracket 3 is replaced by a slotted bracket in which an adjustably clamped spindle carries a handled eccentric boss fitting the hole in the saw. Rotating the boss draws the saw clear of the dies to permit turning to the next tooth. The dies may have each of their eight corners cut to suit either the same or different shapes of teeth.
