569,554. Refrigerating. PELTERIE, R. ESNAULT-: Aug. 20, 1941, No. 10630. Convention date, May 8, 1941. [Class 29] Cold-air and like systems. In a thermal pump operating on the non-condensing compressionexpansion cycle, the compression and the expansion take place on one stroke, while the displacement of the working fluid takes place on the reverse stroke, the compression and expansion pistons being in line and. separated by a third piston. The apparatus may comprise a compression piston 13 and expansion piston 11 connected rigidly with a piston 12, the piston rods 28, 28a being of different diameters or the cylinders having different dead, spaces. Two such sets may be arranged in line as shown and be driven from a shaft 23 through a crank pin roller 24 engaging crosshead guides 25. Valves 29-33 are provided in the cylinders and the compression piston is provided with flap valves 34. It is stated that the system reduces the effort expended in the displacement stroke.
