Abstract

569,192. Alkali sulphides. KREBS & CO. June 2, 1943, No. 8806. Convention date, May 7, 1942. [Class 1 (iii)] Alkali sulphides are prepared by electrolysing a solution of alkali chloride to produce hydrogen and caustic alkali, producing hydrogen sulphide by reacting the hydrogen with sulphur at an elevated temperature, and then reacting the hydrogen sulphide with the caustic alkali to form alkali sulphide. The electrolytic step may be carried out, using mercury cathodes or in electrolysers of the diaphragm type The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes an example describing the preparation of sodium sulphide. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
