Abstract
568,418. Alloys; heat treatment. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 21, 1943, No. 11871. Convention date, July 24, 1942. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] A permanent magnet alloy contains 10-50 per cent of nickel, 5-70 of cobalt, 0.25-3.5 of lead and the remainder copper, a particular example containing 21 of nickel, 29 of cobalt, 0.75 of lead, and the remainder copper. The alloy may be heated to 1100‹ C., slowly cooled to from 800-870‹ C. at the rate of 60-240‹ C. per hour, a heavy cold reduction, e.g. of 50 to 75 per cent 'applied to the alloy which is then precipitation hardened by heating to an elevated temperature up to 1100‹ C., quenching and ageing at 575-650‹ C.. Specification 486,922 is referred to.
