Abstract

568,173. Making screw propellers. RUBERY OWEN & CO., Ltd., and ARNOTT, D. D. Jan. 3, 1944, No. 41. [Class 83 (ii)] In making an airscrew propeller hub as described in Specification 546,359, at least one of the blanks is thickened locally, prior to the stamping operation, by machining or by impact so as to provide a flange or the like in the completed hub. The thickening 14, Fig. 2, is upset around the central hole 15 of one blank before, during, or after the shaping of the edges 12, 13 by a drop hammer, and enables the flange 14a, Fig. 3, to be formed as well as the flange 16a from the part 16, Fig. 2. In a modification, upset thickenings 23, Fig. 4, are formed in both the blanks and enable internal flanges 23a, Fig. 5, to be formed in each of the four blade sockets 13b.
