Abstract

716,144. Turbine blades. STALKER, E. A May 24, 1950, No. 3826/52. Divided out of 716,105. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXII] A hollow turbine blade has a line of openings formed along the leading edge, and in front of the openings is a corresponding number of small plates inclined to the axis of the blade and so spaced as to form discharge slots through which cooling fluid issues over the external surface of the blade from the hollow interior. The blade is formed from a metal blank 60 which has thickened portions 62, 64 corresponding to the leading and trailing edges respectively. The portion 62 is then cut to form a plurality of spaced plates 68 and openings 70 are cut through the blank between the plates, and the plates are then bent downwardly to form narrow discharge slots 20. The blank is then formed into an aerofoil shaped blade and the thickened portion at the trailing edge cut off to form a sharp edge. Specifications 652,870 and 679,467 are referred to.
