Abstract

567,582. Heating air or water. BATEMAN, F. H. J. June 8, 1943, No. 9201. [Class 64 (ii)] Air flows through an insulated chamber 7 from a controlled inlet port 12 to an outlet 14 and receives heat from a pair of contacting metal discs 1, 4 when the disc 4, which is mounted on a shaft 5, is rotated relatively to the fixed disc 1. The discs are maintained in frictional contact by a spring 9, disposed between a stop 10 on the shaft 5 and an end bearing 6 for this shaft, and circulation of the air within the chamber 7 is effected by a fan 11 on said shaft. The apparatus may be used for heating water, in which case a water or steam coil is located within the chamber.
