Abstract

567, 068. Reciprocating pumps. STEWARTS & LLOYDS OF SOUTH AFRICA, Ltd., and DAVIES, R. F. MAYOR-. March 25, 1943, No. 4841. [Class 102 (i)] In a single-acting reciprocating pump the cylinder is provided with a packing gland at distances from its inlet and delivery ends, which are greater than the stroke of the plunger. The cylinder may be made in one or more lengths 1, 2 with a non-return inlet valve 12. The plunger 13 is longer than its stroke, and has a non-return transfer valve 17 and one or more outlets 18. The plunger rod 15 may be operated by hand, a windmill, or other power unit. The packing may comprise a number of cup leathers 4, 5, some or all of which are directed towards the delivery end of the cylinder. The parts of the pump may be made of wood, glass, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, or ferrous metals, which are enamelled or coated with rubber or synthetic resin on their inner and/or outer surfaces so as to prevent corrosion.
