[Class 135] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A pump for gritty or corrosive liquids comprises rubber or like resilient rolling packing rings 35, 36 for the plungers 33, 34, lift outlet valves 50, 51 which open outwardly from the pump chambers 14, 15 and which are located in pockets 18, 19 extending substantially below the level of the plungers, and inlet valves 16, 17 located clearly above the pockets. There is a common inlet chamber 12 and a common outlet chamber 25, the plungers have cross-yokes 37, 38 connected by external parallel rods, and a rubber bush 44 is bonded to a common driving connecting rod 42 and to a gudgeon pin on the yoke 38. The inner surfaces of the pump may be coated with hard rubber or other non-metallic material. The inlet valves 16, 17 are made of rubber and have stems 47, 48 held in a casting 49. The outlet valves 50, 51 also are made of rubber and have metallic backings 52, 53 and stems 54, 55 resiliently supported by rubber discs in metal rims 56, 57 supported by a common frame 58. The modified outlet valves shown in Fig. 3 comprise soft rubber discs 60, 61 bonded to the upper ends of relatively offset tubular stems 62, 63, the lower ends of which are secured to the lower ends of flexible rubber tubes 64. The upper ends of the tubes 64 are secured to bolts 65 fixed in the outlet chamber 25.
