566,577. Bottom brackets for cycles. WALTON & BROWN, Ltd., and RANDELLS, F. April 2, 1943, No. 5279. [Class 138 (iii)] A bottom bracket for a cycle frame is formed from a metal blank which is bent up to constitute the cylindrical hollow body of the bracket, the opposite ends of the blank coming together to form an outwardly-projecting tongue or flat extension for engaging within a tubular member of the frame. As shown, the blank has end extensions 2, 3 disposed between inclined shoulders 2a, 3a and before the blank is bent into shape, three short sleeves 4, 5, 6 are pressed out from it so that when the bending operation is completed, the extensions 2, 3 and shoulders 2a, 3a are in intimate contact and are welded together to form the tongue, over which the flattened lower end 11 of the seat tube engages and is brazed thereto, while the sleeves 4, 5 receive the chain stays and the sleeve 6 the down tube. The shoulders 2a, 3a may be omitted in which case the edges of the cylindrical body abut on opposite sides of the tongue and are united by welding.
