Abstract
566,574. Controlling brakes on motor vehicles and tractors. FEARN, H. March 12, 1943, No. 4026. [Class 79 (v)] In a tractor or vehicle having a pedal 10 which first releases the clutch and then applies the brake, readily releasable means for holding the pedal in the brake-applied position comprise an upstanding hand-lever 11 or 16. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the clutch- and-brake pedal 10 has pivoted thereto a handlever or rod 11 sliding through a slot 12 in a bracket 13. When the pedal is depressed to apply the brake, the rod slides down through the bracket until a notch 14 engages in the bracket and prevents the return of the pedal, thus holding the brake applied. To release the pedal, the rod 11 is moved sidewise against the action of a spring 15, to release the notch from the bracket, thus leaving the pedal free to rise. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a hand lever 16 is formed with a catch 16b adapted to ride over and hold the pedal 10 when the latter is pressed. The lever is pivoted at 17 on a bracket 18 adjustably mounted at 19.
