Abstract
566,310. Fusible cut-outs. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 11, 1943, No. 9407. Convention date, June 16, 1942. [Class 38 (i)] An indicating device on a fuse is held in its non-indicating position in a floating condition so as not to be affected by jarring. A plunger 23 biassed to the protruded position by a spring 24 is retained in its non-indicating position by a stronger spring 28 attached to a strain wire 30. This is anchored to an insulating member 25 to which is also attached a wire 31 that is connected to the far end of the fuse, so that when the fuse wire 11 blows an arc is formed between the wires 31, 30 so that the latter is destroyed and releases the plunger 23. The fuse wire 11 is attached at each end to a bent strip 13 covered by a cap 14 which is secured to the casing 10 by ferrules 15 moulded or die-cast on to the filled casing. A fusion chamber 33 of heat-insulating material is threaded on the wire 11 which is secured thereto by forming a hitch round a projection 351 on a closure 35 at each end.
