Abstract
566,184. Steam superheaters. YARROW, SIR H. E. May 24, 1943, No. 8220. [Class 123 (iii)] A super heater unit comprises an outer tube a, through which steam is passed from a header f and an inner tube b connected to the boiler water space through a manually or thermostatically controlled valve c. The outside of tube a is in contact with the furnace gas, and the temperature of the steam is regulated by the amount of boiler water passing through the tube b or by the height of water in it. If the valve c is closed, the steam is not desuperheated. Heat is conducted to the tube b by fins k with or with. out an intermediate tube l. Expansion rings m may be provided or tube a or b. The superheater may be subject to the furnace radiation, or may be placed behind a bank of water tubes where it is subject to the hot gases.
