564,669. Glazes. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 8, 1943, No. 9176. Convention date, July 25, 1942. [Class 56] [Also in Group XXXVI] An improved means for treating electric insulators to reduce interference with radio reception consists in applying to parts of the porcelain or ceramic body 26 a coating 28 of a semi-conducting material composed of from 1 to 40 per cent by weight of titanium oxide, and 19-60 per cent of iron oxide. A layer 30 of glaze may be applied under or over the semi-conducting layer. The glaze may be composed of feldspar, whiting, barium carbonate, ball clay, and flint in stated proportions, together with a colouring oxide mixture composed of iron oxide, manganese oxide and chromium oxide. The semiconducting material may be provided with a small amount of bentonite or clay, and also a few per cent of other metallic oxides such as those of chromium, manganese, aluminium, or cobalt.
