Abstract

Aug. 18, 1931, No. 23256. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1930. [Class 36.] To prevent bursting of a hollow ceramic insulator a of the type stressed by internal pressure, such as the insulator of a compressed-gas switch, reinforcing means, preferably in the form of wire bindings c<1>, c<4>, c<5> or metal bands c<2>, c<3>, are distributed over the outer surface of the insulator. In the construction shown, the insulator a is for outdoor use and is formed with rain sheds bl .. b<4>, the metal reinforcing means being disposed in recesses formed in the insulator body between the rain sheds. To prevent reduction in the flash-over strength of the insulator, the reinforcing means are applied to those portions of the insulator which are liable to be wetted by rain.
