564,632. Polishing &c. gems. SPIRA, J. H. May 7, 1943, No. 8136/44. Divided out of 565,419 under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 7, 1943. [Class 60] A dop for use in polishing &c. the bezel comprises a cylindrical shell in which a solid cylindrical member is adjustable, the member being fitted with an adapter in which the gem is placed and retained by an adjustable abutment provided on the shell. The shell 150, provided with curved members 151 by which it is adjustably mounted on curved members 72 on the machine, encloses the member 155 having at its lower end a recess for the adapter 160 in which the gem is placed. The member 155 is longitudinally adjusted to bring the flat surface of the gem into engagement with a transversely adjustable abutment 168 on the shell, by means of a collar 176 screwed into the shell, a spring washer 181 and ball bearing 178. When the gem is engaged by the abutment, indexing may be effected by means of a graduated member 182, fixed to a stem 175 on the member 155, a pointer 186 being provided which is carried by a collar 187 secured to the shell by a set-screw. The abutment in the form of a plate having an obtuse-angled point is flat on its inner side and has its outer surface cut away at 173.
