Abstract
564,519. Turning - gear. SVENSKA TURBINFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROM. March. 3, 1943, No. 3525. Convention date, April 9, 1942. [Class 7 (v)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] In a hydraulic barring mechanism for the rotors of turbines, engines, &c., in which fluidactuated pistons 11 act through pivoted pawls 14 engaging wheels 5 on the shafts 2 of the rotor 1, automatic means is provided for limiting the pressure of the fluid on the pistons at the end of their stroke by opening a fluid outlet under the control of the, fluid pressure ; the shafts 2 may be the oppositely rotating shafts of a radial-flow turbine of the double-rotation type. At the end of the return stroke, effected by a spring 17, the pawl is withdrawn from the wheel 5 by the engagement of a lug 18 on the pawl with a member 47. The supply of the pressure fluid (e.g. oil) from a pump 12 through pipes 23 is controlled by a two-way valve 15, Fig. 2, comprising pistons 261, 26<11> integral with a stem 26 and operated by a handle 28. In the normal position shown, the valve is pressed by a spring 27 against the bottom of the casing, the conduit 16 being connected to a return conduit 22 and the pipes 23 being cut off from the pump. Any liquid remaining in the pipes 23 can escape through a discharge pipe 34. On raising the valve to its -upper position, the conduits 16, 23 are connected and the pistons 11 operated. A spring-loaded safety valve 29 allows any excess pressure to escape to a discharge pipe 35. Oil from the hydraulic cylinders 7 may be conveyed by pipes 20 to the bearings 4 of the rotors 1 to facilitate the barring operation. In a modification, Fig. 5, oil for lubrication is conveyed from the twoway valve 15 direct to the rotor bearings before its admission to the hydraulic cylinders. For this purpose the valve member 26<11> is fitted with a sleeve valve 40 normally held by a spring 41. on a seat in the valve member 26<11> so that when the valve 15 is opened, oil from the pump conduit 16 first passes through an outlet 20 to the rotor bearings, until its pressure is sufficient to raise the valve 40 against its spring 41 and admit the oil through the pipes 23 to the hydraulic cylinders.
