Abstract
564,206. Valves. SMITH, S. H., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 8, 1943, No. 2053. [Class 135] A non - return valve actuated solely by fluid pressure and suitable for use with liquids having a specific gravity between 0.7 and 1.3, is formed so that it has a bulk density between 0.7 and 1.3, the valve member being selected so that its bulk density is substantially equal, within limits of Œ2 per cent of the specific gravity of the liquid to be controlled. As applied to a non-return valve for use in connection with a liquid fuel storage or supply system for internal-combustion engines, the valve casing 1 has a flange 8 for attachment to a fuel tank 9 and is provided with a valve seat 5 for a hollow ball valve member 6. This is made of metal or non- metallic material such as plastic material and the thickness is adjusted in accordance with the specific gravity of the fluid to be controlled. The casing has a perforated inlet 2 fitted with a gauze strainer 10.
