Abstract

563,912. Moulded articles. JABLONSKY, B. Feb. 3, 1943, No. 1792. [Class 145 (i)] [Also in Group V] Shaped articles, such as airscrew blades, structures for aircraft and spars, or rectangular blocks of fibrous material impregnated or coated with a thermoplastic or thermosetting binder, are moulded in separate press tools which are individually clamped and then removed from the press and heated to cure the material. The fibrous material may be laminated wood, paper, pulp, textile fabric or mixtures of such materials. The press tool comprises a pair of dies 1, 2 which are provided with threaded bolts 3 secured or pivoted to the lower die and passing through holes in the upper die and clamping nuts 4. A scale may be provided to show the distance between the dies. After moulding in a press, the clamped press tools may be carried on a conveyer to a heating cabinet in which they are heated by high frequency electric current which may be switched on and off automatically or by steam. The press tool is allowed to cool in the cabinet so as to transfer heat to an incoming cold tool. The fibrous material may be preheated in the press tool before being pressed.
