563,297. Applying flanged metal closures to containers. WILKINSON, D. J., and CLEWLEY, C. E. Jan. 14, 1943, No. 685. [Class 125 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A hand-actuated machine for capsuling and sealing or applying flanged metal closures to flanged mouths of containers comprises a positioning disc 1 grooved at la and 1b and carrying a post 2 on which slides a metal tube 3 having a cross-handle 4 at its upper end by which it can be rotated. Three rollers 7 grooved at 7a engage the downwardly flanged rim of the closure A of a container C. When tube 3 is pressed downwardly, it slides on post 2 and tilts the arms 9 of three bell-crank levers so that three blocks 5 carrying the rollers 7 slide in dovetail guides in arms 3a integral with tube 3 and force the flange of the cover inwardly around the outwardly flared mouth of the container.
