Abstract
809,047. Container closures. METAL BOX CO. OF SOUTH AFRICA Ltd. Nov. 12, 1956 [Nov. 30, 1955], No. 34578/56. Class 125(3). In a method of closuring a container 1 having a peripheral head 2 defining the mouth 3 a closure 4 of tin plate or thin aluminium and having a depending flange 5 substantially parallel to the axis of the container is placed over the container mouth and axial pressure is applied thereto, a series of circumferentially disposed indentations 7 being formed in flange 5 by radial pressure while the axial pressure is maintained. The indentations engage under the head to retain the closure in position. A sealing ring 11 is provided and the closure may be removed by levering with a coin inserted between a second bead 8 on the container and the curled edge 6 of the container.
