Abstract
563,294. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. WAITE & SON, Ltd., and WAITE, H. J. Dec. 31, 1942, No. 18595. [Class 42 (i)] [Also in Group XI] Lamp shades are formed from panels of translucent flexible material having their edges interlocked in grooves in intermediate, substantially rigid, members or ribs. As shown, the ribs 6 are formed from extruded or moulded plastic material with L-shaped grooves 4. For the reception of bent-over lips or flanges on the panels 5 which are held in curved shape by the curved ribs, the panels may be of rectangular or tapered shape and the ribs straight to form a prismatic or pyramidal shade. The lower edge of the panels may be stiffened by a wire 7 over which the ends of the panels are bent and which may engage recesses or grooves at the ends of the ribs. The ribs may be built up of strips of wood &c. to give the desired cross-section and L-shaped grooves. According to the Provisional Specification, the panels or sheets of material and ribs may be assembled into other structures.
